4 Hotels Putting a Contemporary Spin on Stained Glass

If you would’ve asked me when I was younger if I’d be waxing poetic about stained glass, I most definitely wouldn’t have believed you. As someone who was raised Catholic, I saw my fair share of it in church on Sundays, but let’s just say it was never a design style I was particularly fond of.
Although stained glass has been around for centuries — mostly in religious settings like mosques and cathedrals — it’s becoming more common to see it in contemporary design. From floor-to-ceiling walls with bright pops of color to intricate art installations, here are four examples of hotels incorporating stained glass into their design with a modern twist.
Rosemary - Marrakesh, Morocco
Opened in September of 2023, Rosemary is a stunning 5-room modern Riad in Marrakesh blending Moroccan craftsmanship with contemporary design elements. Playful uses of stained glass can be seen throughout the property like the doors featured above in the Jacaranda Suite or in the Cocoon’s Suite’s fun feature window framing its luxurious tiled bath. The coolest part? The owners worked with a group of women from Meknes specializing in stained glass to bring their vision to life.
